Black Base

Each nuance is a passionate investigation into recreating the distinctive atmosphere. Tinged with memory of yesterday and longing for tomorrow. The changing atmospheric light is dematerializing diminishing concern for detail, where forms stand between appearance and disappearance. The works are variations of the same working process, soft-light dry brush strokes often painted in a monochromatic scheme. I started with super white on a black base, gradually adding a tint of Prussian Blue and Ochre Yellow in my colour palette. Slowly, the use of super white became lighter in my works to evoke a more fragile air. With the softness of movement, they evoke emotions, fragility and the invisible intimacy of understanding, of existence and of being present.

The process of creating nuances doesn’t always start with an image but from a prose, a text, a dialogue, which is stuck in my mind, to reappear as formless form, associating itself with an abstract idea of light and shadows. What interests me is to dissolve an image rather than creating one, much like Kiarostami, who added details through omission. I add details by blurring them out. I expect that on some level, viewer will look at my work and see some vestiges of their memory reflected, perhaps on a very subliminal level that connects with their own beliefs and ideas of the world.
