Connecting Women With Women
The artwork “Connecting Women with Women” consists of a white woolen yarn of Indian origin, which the artist will continue to rewind throughout the exhibition, gradually expanding its diameter until it reaches a human size.
The repeated act of rewinding the yarn is, as is typical of her practice, a reiteration that simulates the transmission of traditions, from family to family, from woman to woman, through the repetition of the same customs across generations. The wool thread becomes a symbol of storytelling, of weaving stories, which, as revealed by the voices in the audio track accompanying the installation, are always part of moments of female communion.
The recorded testimonies reveal the intertwined bonds, a subtle yet present undercurrent, between different generations of women through oral memory: through the recounting of their memories, the ancestors cross time, intertwining their values with the lives of women in the present, even without ever having known them.
